La Residence is the former Governors residence from the time that Vietnam was part of French Indochina. It's a beautiful low-rise two story building set very close to the Perfume River and almost directly opposite the Citadel. Many rooms have a river view, although when we stayed there was some ground-clearing work going on between the hotel and the river. This might just be for a road, but if it is for or a building then the river view from the hotel could eventually disappear, which would be a pity. There are several good coffee shops within 300 meters of the hotel. The hotel has a very pleasant bar that does good light snacks, and has lovely efficient bar staff that whisk up an array of cocktails in no time, good strength ones too! It also has a good restaurant with a choice of a la carte or fixed price buffet. The latter includes a BBQ station. We had the buffet, which was absolutely fine, but a la carte may be the better option I think. The BBQ offering was nothing to write home about. The rooms are a good size and comfortable. Overall, the hotel has a very comfortable and welcoming feel to it, which we liked. The staff are friendly a very helpful. We would certainly recommend this hotel. It is probably the best in Hue.
